How Our Assessment Works

Last updated July 2026

Your result isn't a vibe-based label — it comes from a fixed, published model of adult attachment, applied the same way to everyone's answers.

Two axes, not four boxes

The quiz measures two independent dimensions: attachment anxiety (how much reassurance and closeness you tend to need) and attachment avoidance (how much independence and emotional distance you tend to want). Every question you answer contributes to one or both of these scores, each normalized to a 0–100 scale.

How your pattern is classified

Once both scores are calculated, a fixed rule decides your result:

If either score lands close to the midpoint, your result includes a mixed pattern note, since patterns that close to the boundary are genuinely less clear-cut than a single label suggests.

The scoring engine decides — not AI

This calculation is deterministic: the same answers always produce the same scores and the same classification. AI is only used afterward, to write a narrative explanation of a result that's already been decided — it can't change your score or pick a different classification. More on that on our Editorial Standards page.

What this doesn't mean

A leaning is a pattern in how you tend to respond, not a permanent trait or a diagnosis. See our Disclaimer for the full detail on what this assessment is and isn't.
